New Orleans Council votes to nearly double salaries


New Orleans City Business: The New Orleans City Council today voted 4-3 to nearly double the raises for the next wave of council members who will take office next year.
WWL TV: The council that will be sworn in next year will now make $83,500, up from the $42,500 that current members make.
Times-Picayune: Mayor Ray Nagin, who is barred by term limits from seeking re-election, has pledged his support, apparently ensuring that there will be no mayoral veto.
