The Advocate: A mentally ill homeless woman was locked up for seven months in the Parish Prison — without ever having an attorney appointed to represent her — after the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office made a clerical error in her file.
Melissa E. Poche, 55, had been held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison since July 22, when she was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office on four misdemeanors.
